About MasterlessSamurai.com:
Short version below, long version to come…
My name is Wes (no not the Wes from Tracking202…the “other Wes”). I come from an I.T background of 14 years working in everything from general sysadmin, to network design/admin, and large scale deployment.
I spent my first years (while still in high school) in I.T. in the corporate world, later working for the U.S Government for 10 years in Japan. (I’ll get into all that in the long version).
I graduated the University of Maryland with a BA in Information Systems with a minor in Asian (Japanese) Studies..propelling me to climb the corporate ladder (well…government ladder in this case), which was fine for a time.
But some years into my time working for the government, I grew weary of time cards, status reports, layers and layer of government bureaucracy, oh….and especially answering to like 8 bosses (you’ve seen Office Space right…yeah, it really is like that)
Long story short, my technical background in I.T, my love of the Internet, and my disdain for my job led me to discover PPC and the idea of making passive income on the Internet. I devoured everything PPC that I could, ebooks, forums, video, etc. I was in love with the Adwords concept.
Initially though, I took PPC as a hobby and wasn’t very serious about making a full time income, just a bit of change on the side. At this time, I was also running a little Ebay operation out of my house in Japan, that did quite well.
Eventually, I did get serious though (after a short stint of losing money at online poker) and made it a goal to find a campaign or 5 that would allow me to quit my day job, move back to the States, and start my affiliate marketing business full time.
InĀ October 07′, I said goodbye to my nice, “secure” government job…(forever), and haven’t looked back.
The following month, I packed up my stuff, said goodbye to family and friends, and moved back to the US after 10 years living in the Orient.
I currently reside in the San Francisco Bay Area…frequently hanging out with other local marketers that I’ve met through Meetup.com and elsewhere. If you’re in the area, drop me a line.
For fun: I’m a musician…have played electric guitar in rock bands since I was 13. So I love playing guitar, going to rock concerts, traveling, learning new languages, going to the gym. And of course I love anything tech related: the Internet, tweaking PCs, hacking my Ipod Touch/PSP, etc. Oh, and lets not forget Affiliate Marketing. I absolutely love this business. So I may spend 10+ hours per day behind the computer, but that’s because it is “fun” for me.
I’d better stop here or this won’t exactly be the “short version” anymore.
Feel free to contact me. Gimme some tutorial ideas if you’d like, and I’ll see what I can do.
Be sure to stop by and say hi, if you see me at a conference!
