Affiliate Summit East 2008: Days 2 & 3

Day 2: Continued from Day 1

Day 3: (Below)

Day 2 kicked off to a late start for me. I didn’t roll in from the partying the night before until about 5:30 AM, so waking up at 8 or 9 was far from my mind. Finally at about 12PM I began to stir, and about 1 or so, was back at the Seaport Convention Center to visit the booths and meet some more people.

The area where the booths were set up was much more spacious, making walking around and talking to new people much easier than at the Meet Market. Before I arrived in Boston, I had a nicely sized list of booths and people who I wanted to meet, but of course forgot to print it out and bring it along. I still managed to do ok, visiting just about (if not all) the booths I had planned.

Some of the highlights:

1and1 Webhosting: These guys have a great affiliate program come to find out…with some print media available to affiliates in the works. I probably spent more than an hour talking with Josh Sloan (Marketing Manager of 1and1), who by the way is a very knowledgeable PPC person. Some interesting strategies were shared in our hour together, and Josh agreed to a future Podcast interview to be featured here on the MasterlessSamurai.com.

CX Digital Media:  I wasn’t already working with CXDM, but after talking with Jessica and a few others, will soon be joining. Like a few other CPA Networks I met with, CX will provide landing page design, copywriters, premium payouts.

Copeac: Another network I hadn’t yet considered. Again, staffed with designers so we PPC affiliates can focus on sending the traffic, let them hassle with tweaking graphics and fonts.

NeverblueAds: Though I was already signed up with NB, I had a good time hanging with Jason and will be switching over to him as my affiliate manager. Originally was with Chutima, who was great, but got switched to a new manager who I’ve never even spoken with (probably someone new to the biz). But NeverBlue is a good network to work with if you haven’t checked them out.

Day 2 concluded with some more partying, this time an event hosted by Linkshare. Another great time, where I got to get to know some guys better like Benny of Geekblogger.net, Dave of PPCFool.com, Alex Tsatkin, among others. Eventually, a group of us found our way out to the streets of Boston for some of the local festivities, until finally turning in for the night at about 3AM.

Day 3: For the sake of not creating another post, I’ll continue with Day 3 here…

The last day of Affiliate Summit once again got off to a late start due to excessive late night partying the night before. So for the entire 3 days that I was in Boston, I didnt see much more than the Westin & Seaport Hotels, some local bars, and the backs of my eyelids. Another 1PM breakfast to start the day…

Again, I spent the majority of the afternoon walking around the booths, visiting a few that I missed on Day 2. But I was pretty exhausted, and was looking forward to getting off my feet as soon as possible.

Toward the end of the day, I finally decided to attend one of the last speaking sessions of the event, which happened to be a topic I was interested in: datafeeds. I was hopeful to come out with a few new nuggets of information, but this session was geared more towards merchants and affiliate managers, than affiliates. So all in all I didn’t learn much in the hour I was there, other than a few new sources for datafeed management, such as Yahoo Pipes.

For dinner, a group of affiliates followed a new friend named “Julian” (thanks Julian) to a local restaurant called Chroma. It was quite a trek, as we had to tackle the Boston subways at rush hour, but the food was good and worth it.

The rest of the night was quieter than the rest had been (no parties), and concluded with some affiliates residing at the Westin hanging out in the lobby, having a few drinks, and sharing stories.

Conclusion: I know this was quite the long post, and thank you if you’ve stuck with me for the entirety of it. All and all, as you can tell from my trip report, ASE 08′ was a blast. Can’t wait for Vegas in 09′!

Way of the Warrior - Tip of the Day: Attending at least one Affiliate Summit is a must for serious Internet marketers.<img src=”https://www.fusionquest.com/cgi-bin/main/hotlinks.cgi?aflt=ironin&client=affsum” mce_src=”https://www.fusionquest.com/cgi-bin/main/hotlinks.cgi?aflt=ironin&amp;client=affsum” width=’1′ height=’1′ border=’0′/> Affiliate Summit West in Vegas is coming January 11-13 2009, so book your rooms, and get at least the expo pass. You won’t regret the experience.

Dude game is on, I can’t wait to do Affiliate Summit all over again, except this time in vegas.

    Lessons Learned:
    1. Don’t waste your time and money going to the sessions
    2. Hide the fact your an affiliate unless you want to get bombarded by networks
    3. Make sure not to leave all your drink tickets to the last few hours

    Peace

Yeah, I made the one sessions, pretty much a waste of time to get one resource worth checking out.

I didn’t mind being known as an affiliate, being that a good number of the networks were staffed by fairly attractive women :)

I totally forgot about my drinks tickets, left them in the hotel room the whole time. Damn $8 shit hotdogs!
